Frequently Asked Questions

CityFibre Home Broadband Products

Who are Cityfibre?

CityFibre is the UK’s largest alt-net provider, responsible for maintaining and building the fibre optic cables covering roughly 33% of the UK market.

What is FTTH?

FTTH (Fibre to the Home) is a high-speed internet connection that uses fibre-optic cables to deliver data directly from the exchange to a home, removing copper wiring entirely. It offers superior reliability and speeds up to 2,500 Mbps (2.5 Gbps) on the CityFibre network. It is commonly known as "full-fibre".

How much is installation?

Standard residential installation will be subject to an installation charge of £30.00 inc. vat. Non standard installations may be subject to additional charges.

How much is migration?

Migrating from another CityFibre based provider is free of charge on all packages unless your ONT needs upgrading (i.e. migrating to Fibre 1200 or Fibre 2300 but your only have a 1Gbps ONT) where an ONT upgrade charge will apply .

Do I get a free router?

We include a router with all 24 month contract packages. If you choose a 1 month or 12 month package then you will need to supply your own router or purchase an Asus or TP-Link router during the ordering process.

What speed do I need?

If you are a single person or couple who are light users (basic streaming, email & web browsing) then our lowest speed services should be enough for your needs. For most families a 550Mbps or 1.2Gbps package should suffice. For people frequently downloading games / large datasets or needing to ensure no interruptions when working from home a 1.2Gbps or faster package is recommended.

How long does service activation take?

A minimum 10 working day lead time applies for all orders. Flats, apartments and other MDU's may take much longer.

What happens at end of contracted period?

A month before the end of the contracted period we will email you to advise you that your contract is about to end. At this point you may extend your contract using our customer portal (with the rate being the current advertised rate for your package) or change to a different package. If you take no action then your monthly rental will be changed to our current 1 month contract rate.
